Annual Installation Service held at the Tower of London

Just nine days after Common Hall 2026, the Coopers’ Company gathered once again on Wednesday 27th May for its Annual Installation Service, held in the magnificent Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula at the Tower of London.

Although the exterior of the Chapel is currently covered while restoration works are undertaken, the beauty and historic significance of the interior remain as impressive as ever, providing a truly fitting setting for one of the highlights of the Company calendar.

Guests attending the Service were welcomed by a guard formed by Army Cadets from No. 2 Coy COLNES. The cadets were a credit to their organisation, presenting themselves with great professionalism and enthusiasm. Following their duties, they were treated to a tour of the Tower by our Beadle, Yeoman Warder Scott Kelly.

The Service was attended by Liverymen and Freemen of the Company together with their guests, and was conducted by the Rev Canon Philip Banks, Canon Precentor of St Paul’s Cathedral, alongside the Rev Canon Roger Hall MBE, Deputy Priest in Ordinary to HM The King.

Music throughout the Service was exceptional, with sublime performances from the choir, their director and the organist, all of which greatly enhanced the occasion and were warmly appreciated by those present.

Following the Service, guests made their way to HMS President for a champagne reception and a convivial two-course buffet supper provided by Cole & Hough. Blessed with beautiful weather, many guests enjoyed the opportunity to gather on the Apron and take in the spectacular views across the River Thames towards Tower Bridge and the London skyline.

During the evening, the Immediate Past President of the Society, Samantha Conlon, offered heartfelt thanks to the outgoing Master, Helena Cook, for her dedicated service over the past year. As a token of appreciation, she presented Helena with a handcrafted wooden tankard.

Master Helena Cooke presented the CO of HMS President, Cdr Ed Bingham, with his Associate Coopers’ Membership Certificate.

The evening was a wonderful celebration of fellowship, tradition and continuity, marking the beginning of another exciting year for the Company.
