The Company was delighted to accept an invitation from its RAF affiliate, 99 Squadron, to visit RAF Brize Norton, home of the RAF’s C-17 Globemaster fleet. Members were warmly welcomed by Flight Lieutenant Jamie Shaw, who hosted the visit.
The day began with an informative briefing on the role of 99 Squadron and the capabilities of the C-17 aircraft, highlighting its vital contribution to military operations, humanitarian aid and medical evacuation worldwide. Members then visited the runway to view the aircraft at close quarters and were invited aboard, gaining an impressive insight into the scale and versatility of the aircraft’s load capacity, including its ability to transport heavy equipment, personnel and fully equipped medical facilities.
Following lunch in the Mess, members visited the parachute training facility, where personnel from across the Armed Forces are trained for operations in a wide range of conditions. Four members took part in a supervised practical demonstration using the mock aircraft facility.
The visit concluded with a meeting with Squadron Commander Nicky Lofthouse, who expressed thanks for the Company’s continued support through its annual contribution to the Squadron’s Services Fund. Leigh Johnson, Immediate Past Master, conveyed the Company’s appreciation to Squadron Commander Lofthouse and Flight Lieutenant Shaw for their hospitality, and reaffirmed the Company’s long-standing and valued affiliation with 99 Squadron.
