William Alexander's Coopers' Liverymen Fund |

William Alexander, a Liveryman who died in 1726, left the Woodham Mortimer Estate in Essex to the Company, the income from this Estate to be used for the benefit of needy Liverymen, their wives, widows and other dependants. In 1976 Alexander's Charity was amalgamated with the Old Coopers' Liverymen Fund, a Charity set up by the Company in 1844 with the same objectives. In modern times, calls upon this combined Charity's funds had diminished to the extent that, in 1983, the Charity Commissioners permitted the Company, as Trustees, to widen the scope of giving to include the general relief of need. However, the prime objective remains and grants may be given to assist needy members of the Company and their families. |
